Our annual Home School field day.
I think the thing I like the most about living in NYC is the ethnic and cultural diversity. In our home school group there are people from all different ethnic backgrounds: Hispanic, Asian, African American, Native American, European, Jewish.... There are also people from several different church backgrounds: Pentecostal, Baptist, Reformed, Nondenominational, Evangelical Free, Messianic Jewish, Presbyterian, Salvation Army.......
We went to a Native American Pow Wow at Floyd Bennett Field--an old airfield that's been turned into a recreational area.
It was mainly a big flea market with a dance contest. But there was also music, storytelling, food and a bird trainer.
Yummy Indian Fry Bread. I got honey on mine. Bad idea when they poured it on and then handed it to me on one of those flimsy paper plates....I had honey all over my pants, arm, feet! But it was yummy!
Street to Street is an outreach to city kids that a guy that used to go to our church started. They have 3 on 3 tournaments. This year our youth minister, Dan, led the tournament in Sunset park (near Bay ridge) with a lot of volunteers from Crossroads helping.
Jae played for the first time this year. He's really into playing basketball right now.
As a part of our community groups we have a missional Sunday once a month. In June we had a picnic for the Guild for Exceptional Children, a group that works with mentally disabled adults.
We played kickball.....
Ate and chatted....
And made new friends.
Playing Yut on Daniel's gotcha day (after returning from dinner and games at Chuck E Cheese, after the picnic at the park! It was a full day!)
