It was the coldest day so far, so it was a short trip. We ate Burger King in the mall under Rockefeller Center then ran up to see the tree, ice skating rink and the window display at Sak's 5th Ave. and inside Sak's to use the bathroom! Then we got back on the subway and headed home. It was fun, though.
We're planning to move into an apartment the second weekend in January. The closing on this house should happen the following week. We still don't know what's happening with the house we're hoping to buy. It seems the seller's attorney isn't too interested in working or something. We're still praying for it, though.
This Saturday will be our Angel Tree party. We're hoping for lots of Angel Tree families, Crossroads families and those from the community that we've invited to participate and serve with us. I'm really looking forward to meeting Brandon and Jada, the 2 children we're sponsoring.
At soccer this fall, I was able to reconnect with my friend Renu. Her son and Jae were in Kindergarten together and have played on the same soccer league since. At one game she asked me if I knew of a place where she could serve the needy with her children (most soup kitchens and places like that around here don't allow young children to serve). I was so excited to be able to share with her about our family service club that we started this fall. So far her schedule hasn't allowed her to participate in the events but she did sponser an Angel Tree family and I'm praying that they will be able to come to the party on Saturday and connect with some Crossroads families. Renu and her family are Hindu.
Our family sat down a few weeks ago to discuss how we would participate in Advent Conspiracy this year. We let the boys choose whether they would like to receive gifts or just receive one gift and give the rest of the money that would be spent on them to Living Water (to build the well in Nigeria) or give all of the money to Living Water. Daniel chose to not receive any gifts and to give all the money that would be spent on gifts for him to Living Water. Today he received a check in the mail for Christmas. We again asked him if he would like to keep part of it to buy something with or give it all to Living Water. He immediately said "I'll give it all to dig the well." Then he asked "Daddy, if I give all my money in my bank will the people in Africa have lots of water to drink?" I'm amazed by his generosity and thankful that God is molding a heart of compassion in him. I know that God is using Advent Conspiracy to challenge all of us to live out the gospel and make a difference in this world.
Merry Christmas
