School Update

We went to register Daniel at the public school down the block this morning.  We'd been struggling with the decision of whether to put him in public school or keep him at the small Lutheran school he's been attending for the past 1 1/2 yrs.  He's been approved for OT and PT through the board of ed. and we were hoping that he could receive it during the school day at public school.  That's not possible at the private school. And since we've moved we thought we were zoned for one of the best public elementary schools in the area.  It's the school that Crossroads began in and that we wished we'd been zoned for when Jae started school.  Instead we were zoned for PS 104, a K-8th grade school with a reputation of not wanting parents involved.  We had a very bad experience there with Jae in Kindergarten, which is why we pulled him out in January of that year and began homeschooling.
Anyway, we prayed all summer and finally made the decision and Daniel was excited about it. We got the final approval for therapy from the board of ed. last week.  Then we were told this morning, when we went to the school to register him, that the board of ed. had changed the zoning and we are now, once again, zoned for PS 104.  I was really upset.  The lady in the school office was so understanding and tried to make us feel that the other schools would be OK (we actually could take him to a school that isn't even in our neighborhood but not the one down the block!!!!)  I told her that we'd had such a bad experience with 104 that we didn't want to send him there and we really didn't want to travel outside of the neighborhood at this point.  The good news (in her words) is that he isn't zoned to go there for Junior High but for another school in the next neighborhood over (but that has a really good reputation).  We'll see when we get to that point in a few years.
So for now, Daniel will continue to go to school at Lutheran Elementary School and I will need to take him for therapy after school.  He's approved for 4 sessions a week and I'm hoping they can combine them into 2 afternoons a week and that we can find a site to provide the therapy close by our house or his school.
We love the principal at Lutheran Elementary and the environment (only 16 kids in his class and a Christian environment).  We were looking forward to saving money on tuition, having more of an opportunity to meet people in the community who live by us and not having to take him for therapy after school, though.
