School Update #2

We got an email last night from the principal at Lutheran saying that the lady we had talked to at ps 185 was her daughter's best friend and she had called her wanting our contact info. because she discovered that what she had told us about the zoning was a mistake. All she knew about us was Daniel's name and that he went to Lutheran because we had told her if he couldn't go to 185 we would just keep him at Lutheran. So the only way she knew to contact us was to call the principal at Lutheran!


Paul spoke with her this morning (the lady who discovered the mistake, she had called from home!) and she confirmed that we are zoned for 185. The confusion happened because they are building a new school a block from us but it won't be open for a year and then they will add one grade a year. I don't even think they will have Daniel's grade before he goes to Jr. High. So officially we are zoned for a school that isn't even open yet. But in the system is says that we are either zoned for that school or for 104 or 180(that's what it said in the internal board of ed. computer system) or 85(that's what it said on the website) and both of those are wrong. It should say 185, which was what this block was zoned for before the new school zoning! I won't feel completely confident about it until he's officially registered, which can't happen until next Tues., the day before school starts (the school office is closed until then)! But I do feel confident that the people that work at 185 really care about the kids and families. Which is the opposite of the feeling we got from 104 when Jae was there.

I had called the main district office this morning and just got a call back confirming the mix up and that we are zoned for 185. He said he discovered the mistake when he started getting complaint calls yesterday from people who live on his block saying they were now zoned for 104 and he knew they were really zoned for 185.  So I'm feeling better about it being true!

We are so thankful for the principal at Lutheran, that she cares so much for us and Daniel and has so many connections in the community.  Otherwise we may have never known about this mistake and he may have continued at Lutheran for at least another 3 years.  We can see that God is working for our best.
