 apple picking in NJ

Daniel had to see all the animals...

 yum...fresh donuts!
We had 2 nieces/cousins born within 12 hours of each other!
Dakota Lily Paudler (above) was born on Sept. 27th to Paul's sister and her husband.  She joins her 4 brothers!
Piper Kate Hoffman (below) was born to Carisa's brother and sister-in-law the next morning.  We can't wait to meet her in November.  She joins her big sister, Campbell.

We got to visit the Paudler family who are stationed at Andrews Air Force Base outside of DC.

 Football on The Mall
Lincoln and I walked into one of the Smithsonian museums for a little while.  He's such a cutie and it's so cool that all the museums are free.

Baby Dakota
It's really hard to get all the boys to stand still and look at the camera at the same time!
We got to tour one of the Gulf Streams that Uncle Tom flies

A Prowler like he used to fly
We got to watch (and hear) some F16s take off!
Daniel had tons of questions for Tom about the planes!
A hike with the cousins

The whole crew.  We'll keep trying for one with everyone looking at the camera.

 Another day in DC
 Lincoln Memorial

In front of the White House
The future president and ? ....well there was a whole discussion about what Noah's job was going to be when Daniel becomes president!

We took a round-about tour getting out of the city.  We drove by some things we'd like to see on our next visit.

 Movie time

Hurricane Sandy
This tree fell into the house next to Jae's orthodontist's office.  This happened Monday morning, before the hurricane really hit.  Jae was scheduled to have an appointment Monday afternoon but the Dr.'s office called asking that he come in before noon because they were closing up after that to prepare for the storm.
 Hurricane Sandy party
Our friends, the Hills, live in an evacuation zone so they came to stay at our house on Sunday night.  At the time of this writing it is Wednesday.  They still have no power at their house so they are still living with us.  School is canceled for the entire week. Most of the subways are still not running. We never lost power or had any damage at our house.  Bay Ridge made it through the hurricane with much less damage than other neighborhoods.  There are trees down and I expect that the parks by the water are pretty messy.
Just a few pictures from the internet of what happened here in NYC.  It's pretty overwhelming.
This is the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel!
About 100 houses burned in Breezy Point, Queens.  There is a lady who goes to Crossroads that lives there but her house wasn't affected by the fire.  They do have a lot of water damage, though.
The carousel in the Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The subway station where we used to live in Manhattan.

Even though the city is still a mess Halloween happened in Bay Ridge!
Jae and Ethan, the boy whose family is staying with us.
They went trick-or-treating together.
Later Daniel and Caden went trick-or-treating

We weren't sure if the neighborhood trick-or-treating (at the stores on the avenues) was going to happen but it obviously did.  Several stores had signs up saying they didn't have any candy but plenty did.
Several people in the church have water damage in their homes (they live in other neighborhoods).  Quite a few of the families in our home school group have damage and are still without power.  It will take a while for many to recover from Hurricane Sandy.  We are looking for ways to help those affected.
