House

I've been waiting to post pictures of the house since we moved in until we got some pictures on the wall.  We were finally able to get the pictures on the wall over the couch this past weekend.
 I thought I'd do a "Before & After" post.
This is the third house we've bought and fixed up. This one actually needed the least amount of work though.  Our first house needed a new roof and ceilings and floor and eventually a kitchen remodel.  The second house had to have the basement finished (a huge job) and then we found out that the foundation under the extension wasn't deep enough and that was a huge, expensive job.  Then the street collapsed in front of the house because the builders had joined old and new pipes.  It was a big project.
This house mainly needed cleaning and paint and a new oven.

There's really nothing different about the stairwell except the pictures.  This is our NYC wall.

After.
The bed with straw bales will be the cold frame and the bed without straw will have a low tunnel to protect greens through the winter.  Hopefully, next summer this will be overflowing with fresh veggies!
 Before.
The previous owner had a garden in the back of the yard but it was all overgrown with weeds and poison ivy and the beds were built with treated landscape timbers (not good for food crops).  I worked hard to try to naturally kill the poison ivy and pull it and the other weeds out.  We hired a guy to take the timbers away and trim the tree up.

I was finally able to finish leveling it and put down grass seed this week.  Hopefully by the spring it will be a part of the lawn. Yay!  More grass to mow!

Our bedroom.  Nothing's really different except the furniture.  We'll have to wait to get pictures of the boys rooms when they are clean sometime.  But we didn't do any painting in their rooms either.

The guest room for all our visitors who will be coming. Plenty of room for air mattresses for the kids!

And my craft room
I still have some more projects on my to do list like painting the shudders and the front door, getting rid of the ugly red carpet on the stairs, getting a tub in our bathroom and maybe a screened in porch someday.   Those things will probably get done right before we move the next time!  Hopefully soon enough to enjoy them a little bit, though.

We are very thankful for God's provision.  We were able to buy this house and a rental house with the money from the sale of our Brooklyn house.  We hope to have the rental house ready to rent soon and then it will provide a little income for us.  I'll have to post some pictures of it soon.  It's a cute little bungalow with two apartments near downtown and really close to the Swamp Rabbit biking trail.

Paul has completed his training and started doing home inspections on his own this week.  Hopefully, by January he will be up to two inspections a day and earning a full-time salary.

Paul and Jae just left to take Jae to visit Johnson Christian University in Knoxville, TN tomorrow.  Daniel and I will drive to Knoxville tomorrow after school to meet them.  We will stay with one of our professors from college who now teaches at JCU, Dr. Weatherly and his wife.  I look forward to visiting them and checking out the college and Knoxville.
