We had had an rv weekend planned for the last weekend of Spring Break. But all the State parks were closed at that time. They opened back up in May and we were able to get a site about 3 hours away near Columbia for Memorial Day weekend. This was the maiden voyage for our new camper. We'd stayed in it in our driveway a couple of times but this was the first time traveling with it. Our vacation is planned for June so we wanted to figure out what things need to be fixed, what other supplies we need, what things we need to pack that we didn't think of.
It had been pouring all week but Friday morning was beautiful. Right up until we were hooking up the camper to leave in the afternoon. Then it started pouring. When we got to the campsite we discovered we had a leak and there was water all over the floor inside. Thankfully Paul was able to do a quick fix, since it poured most of the night and several other times during the weekend. We need to get a more permanent fix before our vacation.

The boardwalk was flooded. We did get to walk parts of some of the paths but many were flooded.
We saw some wildlife: turtles, deer, herons...thankfully no alligators!
The road that leads to the river. We were planning to kayak and canoe on the river and this was the road we would have gotten off the river once we got back to the park. Didn't happen. Two different times when we walked to this point we saw huge Blue Herons flying away.
Ok. Time to turn around since the path is flooded.

Since we didn't get to go boating on Saturday, Paul and Daniel searched online for somewhere else we could go boating. They found out that we could boat a path in this marsh in the Gooddale State Park.
No, we didn't see any, thankfully!
These pictures are fuzzy because the dry bag for my phone was very dirty. It was a beautiful path through the marsh.
Paul and I were in the canoe and Daniel got the kayak. I think Daniel and I have talked Paul into getting rid of the canoe and getting a third kayak so we can each have one. Kayaks are more fun! :-)
Unfortunately we didn't get to see any of the birds these big houses are for.
Daniel had seen a sign on Saturday for Camden, SC and remembered that a famous Revolutionary War battle was fought there. (American History is his favorite). So after boating we took a drive. The museum is closed due to Covid 19 but we went to the battlefield.
Daniel was disappointed that most of the signs were about the trees, not the battle. There was another section that had more info. about the battle but as you can see from the picture below it was getting ready to pour.

I forgot to take any pictures of our camper set up but here we are getting ready to leave on Monday.
It was a successful maiden voyage and we have long to do lists to get ready for our vacation in Edisto Beach in 3 weeks.
