December 2020

Decorating for Christmas

And the work begins!  The carpet in the new house was over 20 years old.  Paul replaced it ALL with hardwood.

All the windows were painted shut.  I was able to get all but 2 upstairs opened.
We opened up the doorway so the refrigerator door would open.  It made the kitchen so much more open and bright.

The cabinets were too low and it made the space feel crowded.  Raising them  made a huge difference.

I decided not to paint the cabinets but to use something called Briwax to refresh them.  It was alot of work and my wrist and shoulder will never be the same from all the rubbing but I'm happy with the result.
Paul had never laid hardwood floors before.  But a guy he works with came and helped him get started and taught him how to do it and friends loaned him the tools he needed so we didn't have to rent them.  He ordered the cabin grade hard wood from Cheap Hardwood Floors and saved alot of money.

Daniel wanted a blue room.  He picked out the paint color.
Spartanburg Methodist had all the students move back home at Thanksgiving and finish up the semester online.  Daniel goes back the 2nd week of January and will have a new dorm room.

Cutting the counter top to fit in the new farm sink.

The bedroom floor is done!  Looks great.
I chose this grey paint for the entire house (except Daniel's room and the kitchen).  It feels so light and clean.
We talked Mario and Romero into doing the backsplash for us!  I love it!!!  I painted the kitchen walls all white to make it brighter in there.
I love the sink!
We really got alot done on the new house in December.  So much left to do, though.
My Holiday Cactus really put on a show this year.  It started blooming at Thanksgiving and continued until almost Easter!

We needed a break from all the work on the house so we went to Hollywild one night.

Christmas morning monkey bread.
We exchanged family games with the Paudlers.
Our gift to Daniel.  He's always hanging out on the full sized bed in the guest room saying it's more comfortable than his.  Well, Paul and I bought a new mattress for our bed and would get a cheap frame and put the old mattress and box springs in the guest room and let Daniel have the full sized bed.  So I bought him full sized blue sheets and a blanket and wrapped them for him. He was a little confused until I told him the real gift was that he gets the bed he's wanted for so long.  And now what does he do?  Still hangs out on the guest room bed!!!!
Paul and I didn't exchange gifts this year.  The new house and all the upgrades is our gift!
