We arrived in Orick in the afternoon. Paul's dad had reserved a friend's cabin for us to stay in.
Daniel had so much fun with Karaoke with Grandpa Curtis!
He would have kept singing all night!
But Paul and I did get a turn.
The next day we got to check out the redwoods.
We don't know who that little girl is. She and her dad were hogging the Big Tree photo opp and we got tired of waiting.
We stopped by a gas station on a reservation and passed this tombstone. I guess we can stop watching for him!
That night we went to Eureka to hear Paul's dad, Sonny, and his friend perform at a Mexican restaurant.
There was a farmer's market going on. This was a trendy part of town.

The next day we all went kayaking in the lagoon.

On our last visit we had gone to Patrick's Point near sunset. We have a picture from this exact spot from 2013!
Paul's dad was performing at the same restaurant this night so we decided to sight see instead.

We wanted to go see the old buildings but people were camping in and around them and we felt like intruders so I didn't get any pictures.
It would be really easy to get lost in this maze of trails! Even Paul said there was a limit to the number of turns his internal GPS could hold.
We decided to look for a restaurant in a little town called Trinidad that Sonny had mentioned.
Whew!
We ate at a restaurant right by the pier and beach.
And this guy was swimming right by the restaurant!
Guess they don't have much crime.

We're on the road that divides the lagoon from the ocean. See those tiny little white buildings on the other side of the lagoon? That's the RV park. It's very isolated.
We drove by Sonny and Ellie's Inn in Orick on our way out.
And I got to see some elk!
I really wanted a picture of the National Redwood park sign but this is all we could find.
We left Orick for our drive to Portland and our return flight.
We had a beautiful drive through the Redwood National forest.
We think this is Mt. Hood.
We checked into our hotel near the Portland airport and got a few hours of sleep before getting up at 2:45am to catch our early flight home.
After our miserable flight out on Frontier we were so excited when United asked us if we would be willing to sit in an exit row. We loved the extra leg room. And there were real tray tables, tv on the seat backs and free drinks! And our luggage made it all the way to Greenville the same time we did.
It was an amazing vacation!
